THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Dust particles, botched press conferences, testy teens, VIPs, bombings, assassinations, military intrigue, national abandonment, hacking, camping, and eyeglasses.

HOT TAKE: I have not yet seen the American version of this show, but damn, this was a democratic rollercoaster of an experience. Everyone is out to win something whether it's an improved South Korea, dirty revenge, or just maintaining some semblance of governmental sanity.

This show has a real 'let's use the same 3 hallway sets over and over again' problem, but the familiar environments just made me care that much more about the acting masterclasses happening between their walls.

Synopsis :

I usually enjoy a lot classical music based drama. Unfortunately, this one fell short of my expectations, and I was pretty disappointed.

RIIZE AS KDRAMAS MALE LEADS: HEADCANONS

Shotaro – Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo

— idk He just GIVES Nam Joohyuk as Joonhyung — he’s playful, affectionate, and teasing occasionally but also incredibly caring.

— Would 100% do that “poking your cheek while grinning” thing.

— Falls first, falls harder, and he is completely obvious about it.

Eunseok – Business Proposal

— ofc eunseok as a chaebol heir, he seems distant but actually dying inside when he likes someone.

— he’s like strict and intimidating but turns into the softest, most devoted boyfriend ever.

Sungchan – Twenty-Five Twenty-One

— ik i already put nam joohyuk but his characters are so euntaro coded 😭😭 —handsome, hardworking, and just so full of warmth.

— He’s 100% the “best friend who becomes more” trope with slow burn moments that hurt in the best way.

— He’d be the guy who ruffles your hair, jokes around, but then suddenly looks at you like you hung the stars in the sky.

Wonbin – Nevertheless

— Ok so we’re gonna ignore the fact that jaeeon is actually like such a red flag but he’s so flirty, effortlessly cool, and the guy everyone warns you about.

— The difference from the show is that Wonbin would actually commit instead of playing around.

— Imagine the scene where he brushes your hair behind your ear and whispers something to you !:!/!-!/!:!

Seunghan – Doom at Your Service

— he’s like…. kinda intense? defo mysterious, and kind of worrying but secretly soft inside.

— Acts like he doesn’t care but will literally do anything to protect you.

— Gives “I’m bad for you”, but deep down, he just doesn’t know how to show love properly.

— Would 100% do the dramatic back hug scene in the rain.

Sohee – Extraordinary You

— He gives Haru so bad yall — quiet, observant, but incredibly sweet once he opens up.

— Would be the type to stare at you for too long and then act like nothing happened.

— The slowest of slow burns, where you don’t even realize he’s been in love with you the whole time.

anton – A Love So Beautiful

— He’s basically Cha Heon , u cant tell me otherwise — quiet, a little socially awkward, but loves with his whole heart.

— The type to walk you home every day and pretend it’s no big deal.

— Acts chill but actually gets super jealous when someone else flirts with you.

— Would take forever to confess, but when he does, it’s the sweetest thing ever (probably involving music like him making you a song??? )

Kim Young-dae roles ranked from least interesting to most:

Perfect Family, Park Kyung-ho - dies in the first episode and mostly disappears after episode 4. Why is this actor still playing high school students? Dies very beautifully but not enough time to learn anything more than "nice" and "into the female lead"

Extraordinary You, Oh Nam-joo - the character is a broody, emotionally-unavailable trope and never really develops. Also, as one of the characters who never gains sentience, there isn't a lot going on here.

Penthouse War in Life 1-3, Ju Seok-hoon - all this character can do is be devoted to women (his twin, his crush, and his stepmom) and hate his dad. He also occasionally plays piano. Not bad traits, but not very exciting. He becomes slightly more active in S3 but not more interesting.

No Gain No Love, Kim Ji-uk - this character could have been so much better if he got more screentime but we rarely know what he's thinking or see his perspective. I did love that he was a male, super-friendly people-pleaser with abandonment issues since that's usually reserved for female characters. Unpopular opinion: they should have kept the long hair.

Moon in the Day, Han Jun-oh - dies in the first episode and yet that's enough time to fully hate every fibre of his being. He's obsessed with his girlfriend but in the worst way because she's over him. He calls children fat, has zero work ethic, and won't learn CPR. He's the worst. Great character.

Sh**ting Stars, Gong Tae-sung - so many layers to this character, he's very professional at work, unless he's (lovingly) harassing Oh Han-byul or experiencing PTSD. He's got abandonment issues and like 5 people he trusts. He's perfectly charming in public and ridiculous when no one is around. Super fun character.

The Forbidden Marriage, King Lee Heon - he vacillates between Cute Wife Guy (his true form), crying mess, and murderously angry. He's being psychologically tortured and is almost at his breaking point, but he just wants to be a silly little guy who loves his wife. Such an interesting character.

Moon in the Day, Kim Do-ha/Possessed Han Jun-oh - he's trying to commit suicide via letting an assassin live in his house, he's desperately in love with a woman and 100% convinced she'll kill him; he's determined to kill a reincarnation of said girl, but he can't because he still loves her despite all the murder and 1500 years of cursed existence. No one is doing it like him. Very good at glaring and standing around ominously but also at heart eyes. Will kill everyone if his girl has a fever

MISSING CROWN PRINCE

GENRES: Historical, Romance, Comedy

SUMMARY: A moment’s regret evolves into a generation of palace intrigue, backstabbing, and royal love.

THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Kidnapping, greedy Kings, mistaken identities, first aid, poison research, gymnastics, face-reading, brotherly miscommunication, mid-life pregnancy, bodyguards, bandages, power-hungry grandfathers, tiger hunters, painting dates, and loyal gangsters.

HOT TAKE: This is a LOT of show--not only is it 20 episodes but every hour has at least several plot twists and turns. This is not a criticism, but just beware, you are going to come out on the other side having lived at least a few lives.

Suho did a pretty decent job as the Crown Prince! His character is understated, but he really has fun with the little moments of flirting and clever planning scattered throughout the season.
